Wexford want home advantage

Wexford county board is to formally request a home venue from the Leinster council for the staging of next summer's Leinster SFC quarterfinal against Dublin.

The draws for the 2010 championships were made last week and in the majority of cases the team drawn first from the hat will stage the game on their home ground. However, this seldom applies when Dublin are involved, as their large support and resulting payday for the Leinster council usually ensures the match is moved to the 82,000 capacity Croke Park.

"We were the first out of the drum and if we had been with say, Meath, we would have been entitled to a home draw," said county board chairman, Ger Doyle.

"Dublin have had all their home games in Croke Park, but a precedent was set when they had to travel to Pearse Park in Longford a few years ago to take on the home county.

"We have a 30,000 capacity, so definitely we are looking towards having the game played in Wexford Park."
