Banner captain to meet with county board

by GAA Staff , 05 November 2009

As unrest continues to dog the senior hurling scene in Clare, Banner captain Brian O'Connell has agreed to meet members of the county board within the coming 24 hours to discuss the standoff regarding the future of Mike McNamara as the county's manager.

The Clare panel last week sent a letter to the county board in which they expressed their lack of confidence in McNamara, who oversaw a poor 2008 at the helm.

However, he was reappointed in his role for a third season last week, while the board did not even take the letter from the players into consideration as it was unsigned.

But having met once again the panel have voted 27-1 for the removal of the manager and are keen to learn what O'Connell can gleam from his meeting with the board, with no further comment to come from the players until after that date.

As it stands, however, there seem to be no obvious choices as a replacement for McNamara if the situation changes.
