City ran themselves into the ground

by Chris Waddle , 25 January 2009

It was all Arsenal in the second half and they dominated the midfield as Cardiff came right off the pace.

Cardiff were very resilient - they have been asked a few questions in the second half but they dug in and were the better side in the first half.

Arsenal were just looking for a bit of quality but it didn't happen. Cardiff were very tired as they'd run themselves into the ground and barely got over the halfway line.

Joe Ledley and Gavin Rae were really feeling the effects of it but Arsenal kept going into the pack and were not getting the full backs in to try and get around the back of them.

There was no excuse for Emmanuel Adebayor, it was an unbelievable miss. He's just got to get contact and hit the target but it actually hit his calf from good play from Robin van Persie again.

It was a terrific strike by Ross McCormack from his free kick with a lot of dip on it. Lukasz Fabianski had it covered, I think, but it hit the top of the bar.

Cardiff were well organised and play decent football. They ran themselves into the ground but Arsenal were definitely the better side in the second half.

I felt they were very poor in the first period when Cardiff, for me, should have capitalised and gone in a couple of goals up at half time.
