Jennings has the belief

British boxer Michael Jennings has the fight of his life this weekend when he takes on strong favourite Miguel Cotto at Madison Square Garden.

I have been working with Jennings as his sports psychologist in preparation for this tough contest.

Michael has worked hard to develop his mental toughness in preparation for this occasion.

The phrase 'controlling the controllables' is often used but never more apt for this weekend.

Rather than allowing himself to get caught up in the occasion or worry about his perceived odds, he is going back and focusing on the fundamentals - his speed, footwork and rapier-like jabbing technique.

If he gets this right, a fine performance will follow.

Whether this is good enough to beat Cotto is unknown but if belief is an indicator, Michael has plenty of it and feels that he is capable of answering any question which will be posed.

The fight is now live on Setanta Sports as part of a massive boxing double header this weekend.
