Crazy table gives Stoke hope

by Richard Field , 04 March 2009

Stoke jumped out of the relegation drop zone to 15th-place on the back of their 2-0 win against Bolton.

Such a leap means we can expect an amazing finale to the season with the calculators going mad when the final round of matches are played in May.

This will make up for the formality which is Manchester United retaining their Premier League title.

Tony Pulis has to be patted on the back for bringing James Beattie to the Britannia Stadium with this former swimmer taking his goal tally to five in six games since his arrival.

Perhaps the Stoke boss should have considered obtaining a lottery ticket following his substitution which saw Ricardo Fuller add a second goal to make it a long way back for Bolton.

It will be folly to think everything is rosy in Stoke’s garden now because they owed a huge debt of gratitude to goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen who pulled off a string of fine saves.

This 32-year-old Dane proved there is plenty of spring left in the legs and such a display will give the back-four plenty of confidence if he can continue to shine in goal.
