Boom time for Brum

by Richie Woodhall , 09 March 2009

Wayne Elcock and Matthew Macklin is just a great fight for the area. There's a real buzz in Birmingham at the moment.

It's going to be a close one – a hard one to call.

Both will want to win for similar reasons. Elcock's coming to the end of his career and Macklin’s no spring chicken either.

I couldn't give a verdict even if I wanted to because they're both my mates.

Generally though, Birmingham's just very exciting at the moment.

I’ve got Don Broadhurst, the Commonwealth flyweight champion, he’s a classy kid. There’s a lot of excitement around Don. He brings a lot of supporters to each fight.

You’ve got Frankie Gavin who turned pro and has a lot of support. Don's got a different set of supporters. It’s the old football thing. Frankie’s a Birmingham City fan, while Don’s a Villa fan.

You’ve got two sets of football supporters supporting their man.

We’ve got Young Muttley who's a good fighter, but we need a leading West Brom supporter coming through such as myself!

The City’s on a high. Its good for the area and this fight tops it off.
