Lack of training the Kotelnik concern

by Steve Bunce , 13 June 2009

Andreas Kotelnik has a toothache and I'm told that everybody in life gets a toothache - it's why dentists are flourishing.

The Ukraine fighter is due to face Amir Khan on June 27, although that fight is now in doubt due to Kotelnik's injury.

I've been told that there is an infection following the injection. So he has this mouth problem, but it doesn't mean he can't walk or that he won't be fit as a fiddle on June 27th.

But it does mean that he would have to miss probably a week or ten days of sparring. It is not that these injuries are life-threatening, they just can't train.

It is a very difficult situation. Footballers pick up knocks all of the time and play through a knock and then they have a week off. Boxers don't.

Top boxers fight four or five times a year and they train for ten to twelve weeks to get ready. If they have to miss a week, it all goes to pot.

Steve was speaking on Setanta Sports News about the Khan-Kotelnik fight.
