Defeat won't worry United

by Paul Parker , 18 March 2009

I don’t think Manchester United’s defeat to Liverpool at the weekend will have any impact on them.

If you are a top side and deem yourself that way, a defeat should not bother you. You just get on with it, accept it and move on to the next game, in this case for Manchester United it is Fulham away, you go there and win convincingly and get on with it.

People say United will be lacking confidence, but they can’t be lacking in confidence - they are Manchester United. They have got top internationals and they should want to go out there and prove a point.

I know what Sir Alex is like after defeats and it will be a long, long week for those players with the training sessions. The boss will be prowling around and the players will want to put it right as quickly as possible.

Spitting a low act
I just want to touch on the incidents of Tuesday and if Cesc Fabregas has spat at Brian Horton he deserves to be punished. You ask anyone in the game, it is the worst thing you can have happen to you.

One question I have got to ask is what is he doing on the pitch? He is not in the squad so I do wonder what he is doing on the pitch. For most clubs, if you are not involved in the squad on the day then you are nowhere near the field – you are in the back of the stands.

When you look at Phil Brown in that press conference after the game, that is not a man who is making things up. For me, he is telling the truth and is disgusted with what he saw.

Fabregas had no right to be around it and he has put himself and his manager in a difficult position. You just don’t need that in football, you can’t condone spitting.
