Rarely we are restricted from showing some specific events on Setanta-i. Technical Answers
Once I've subscribed, how do I watch?
During the sign-up process you will be prompted to create your username and password (these will be emailed to you upon completion as well). Simply enter these details on the homepage and click 'Login'.
When you first log on we suggest you navigate to the 'Watch Live Now' pane on the left side of the console which will direct you to the main player. Click on the 'Options' tab at the bottom of the player and select the setting which gives you the best picture quality. From the right hand side of the player you can also adjust the bitrate/speed quality at which you're watching and switch to view the weekly broadband schedule. The player will automatically save the changes you have made so when you login to the service again your settings will be retained.
Once logged in you can choose between watching live simulcasts of Setanta Sports 1, 2 , Golf and News or you can hover over to the archived programming and select replays from the Football, Golf, Rugby, GAA and Other Sports folders.
Why do I get a Content Blocked message?
If you receive this message, your computer's IP address suggests that you are trying to access our service from outside the UK. You must be in the UK to watch Setanta-i.
Occasionally however, this message can appear for users who are within the UK. This usually happens when an Internet Service Provider (ISP) is assigning an IP address associated with another country.
Sometimes when an ISP is globally located they allocate an IP address to you that is not registered from your local country but from their overall bank of IPs which may be registered anywhere in the world. We use your IP to determine where you are trying to view the broadcast but in some cases it is possible to enable your IP even if it appears to be coming from a country outside the broadcast area.
If you believe this is happening to you please contact the technical support desk at supportUK@setanta.tv.
Is the service available on Macs as well as PC's?
Yes, the service is available on Macs. An application to convert Windows Media content for the Mac-standard Quicktime player is commonly required. An example of such an application is Flip4Mac which can be downloaded free of charge from http://www.flip4mac.com. You will also need to update your System Preferences accordingly.
You can test the compatibility of your computer and current set-up before subscribing by viewing the demo clip on the homepage or during the sign-up process.
Do I need broadband access to view events on Setanta-I.
Yes, the service is broadcast for a broadband audience only.
Content will be broadcast at a choice of two bitrate speed options - 350 or 600 Kbps. You will therefore need a broadband connection to view events on the service.
What speed broadband connection do I need?
Content will be broadcast at a choice of two bitrate speed options - 350 or 600 Kbps. Users with faster connections will benefit from being able to stream the higher resolution option.
If you do not have a sufficiently fast broadband connection to the Internet, you will be unable to view content on the service. You can test the quality of the picture you're able to receive by viewing our demo clip before signing up. To access the demo clip please click on 'View Demo Here', available on the Setanta by Broadband homepage.
Can I test the quality of the video feed before I subscribe?
Yes - we encourage you to do so.
As part of the process of subscribing, you will be invited to view a test clip. This will give you an indication of the quality of the live broadcast. Alternatively, click 'View Demo Here' on the Setanta-i home page and play the test clip.
What is the difference between setting 1, 2, 3 and 4?
Each setting receives a feed from a different location. This location has an influence on the quality of your live broadcast. Try settings 1 to 4 to ensure you have the best possible viewing experience.
Are my registration and credit card transactions secure?
Yes, you will be connected via a secure, encrypted channel. The server then sends your data through the authorization network to the appropriate bank over a secure, proprietary connection.
Will I be able to watch the match on a computer other than the one from which i have registered?
Yes, you can enjoy Setanta-i at home, work and wherever else you have access to a broadband-enabled computer. But your login details are for your personal use only and you can only use one connection at a time.
Simultaneous logins from different computers will be detected and can result in suspension of your account with no possibility of a refund.
What format will be used to broadcast the events?
We will use Windows Media V9 video to stream the matches.
In order to view the broadcast, you will need to have Windows Media Player V6.4 or above (available as free downloads from Microsoft) installed on your computer.
Mac users may need an application for converting Windows Media files for the Mac-standard Quicktime player, for example, Flip4Mac.
You can test the compatibility of your system for viewing events on Setanta-i by viewing the demo clip which can be found on the Setanta-i homepage.
How do I update my personal details?
You can change your name and address by using the 'My Profile' section of the Setanta-i service. Log in to the service as normal, click the 'My Profile' link at the bottom of the screen and choose 'Personal Details' to update, which includes your email and password details.
Why can I only see a programme schedule when I click on "Currently showing?"
If, upon selection of a channel, you are directed to the weekly schedule this is because there is currently an item of programming which is not permitted to stream on the service. Due to certain rights agreements Setanta-i is restricted from showing specific events online. We advise customers to access the 'Whats on the Service' page (which is featured on the homepage of the service) for detailed information. However notably content such as the AFL and ESPN is blacked out from the player window. The simulcast of the Setanta Sports channels will resume once the blacked-out programming has finished.
I can get audio, but why is my video screen black?
The error you have experienced may be due to the configuration of your Windows Media Player. Setanta-i requires audio and video software which is usually pre-installed in your PC, however with some cases you may be required to install the required components. To ensure you have the compatible software (codecs), simply click on this link and download the package suitable for your operating system. Note: You may need administrative rights on your computer to do this.
If problems persist you can contact our technical support desk at SupportUK@setanta.tv.
Why do I keep getting logged off?
You are only allowed to use one connection at a time. If logins from 2 machines at the same time are attempted, the 2nd login will automatically log off the first. This is a breach of the Terms and Conditions and simultaneous logons from different computers can result in suspension of your account with no possibility of a refund.
What do I do if I am unable to watch due to technical difficluties?
If you feel you have been unable to view an event due to issues with our service, please send an email to SupportUK@setanta.tv. If possible please enclose any screenshots of the problems you have encountered or details of the issues you are experiencing.
Where can I view the Terms & Conditions for the service?
Terms and Conditions can be accessed via the console at Setanta-i.
