England face up to Moses battle

by Admin , 24 February 2010 football news

Wigan forward Victor Moses is being urged to pick England over Nigeria by under-21 coach Stuart Pearce.

The 19-year-old stepped up to the Premier League last month when he left financially-stricken Crystal Palace to join the Latics and is tipped by many to have a bright future on the international scene.

He's already been picked by Pearce for next week's clash against Greece at Doncaster's Keepmoat Stadium but he is also eligible to play for Nigeria, who are keen on him as well.

The former Palace man was born in Nigeria but left the African nation aged 11 following the murder of his parents.

Pearce said: "If I felt in my heart of hearts I wanted to represent someone else I would make my decision and stick by it. "

But I understand some players might think their chances of playing for a certain country might be limited.

"They still want to play international football and go somewhere else. "

The whole situation has changed quite drastically.

We played Germany in the European Under-21 championships last summer and 10 out of their 11 players were eligible to play for someone else.

"It wouldn't be my choice but there you go. "

I can't dictate what he does in the future but I have been on the road and watched Victor play for the Under 19s.

"He did very well there and we feel he is good enough to be in the squad, so we have picked him. "

I am sure he will be very proud to represent England when he turns up next week and I can't wait for the chance to work with him."
