Boss backs N'Zogbia for England

by Admin , 25 February 2010 football news

Roberto Martinez is calling on Fabio Capello to consider Wigan winger Charles N'Zogbia for his World Cup squad this summer.

N'Zogbia has spent six years in the country since leaving his local club Le Havre in the summer of 2004 and would therefore be eligible to play for England despite being born in Harfleur, Normandy.

The Latics ace did win 13 Under-21 caps for France during his time at Newcastle, but his outstanding form this season has been ignored by national coach Raymond Domenech.

Martinez told the Evening Post: "If Charles can be consistent enough between now and the end of the season, he must have a great chance of going to the World Cup - whoever he chooses to play for. "

He is 'homegrown' now and qualifies to play for England as well as France, but it's his decision.

"Charles has got an exciting challenge ahead of him to carry on improving, because he is capable of going on to a higher level still."
