Bolton have been hit by a new injury blow with the news Fabrice Muamba is set to miss the derby with Wigan due to a thigh knock.
The 21-year-old battling midfielder was forced off during the second half of Tuesday's 4-0 defeat against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light suffering with a badly bruised thigh.
Owen Coyle has confirmed that Muamba is a serious doubt for the game against the Latics at the Reebok Stadium this weekend.
"I'm always worried when players take knocks," he told the Bolton News. "I think it was a straight hit, so it's more of a dead leg than anything else - but you saw his movement was totally restricted. He couldn't move at all, if truth be told."
Muamba's injury adds to the absence of Stuart Holden, who is out for another month with a broken leg.
Gavin McCann is set to undergo ankle surgery which will sideline him for the rest of the season, while Chris Basham has missed the last fortnight after turning his ankle in a reserve team game.
Tamir Cohen will return from suspension for the Wigan clash, but Sam Ricketts will miss out after he picked up a red card in midweek.
