Ballack has faith in understudy

Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack is confident keeper Ross Turnbull can keep Inter Milan at bay in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The former Middlesbrough keeper made his Chelsea debut in the victory over West Ham on Saturday and looks set to retain his place when Inter visit Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

Turnbull will get his chance as Petr Cech is not expected to be fit in time to face the Italian side, while second-choice stopper Henrique Hilario is also ruled out with a groin injury.

However, Ballack claims to have complete confidence in Turnbull's ability and feels he will rise to the challenge of facing the current Serie A champions.

"It's normal if that you are a little bit nervous if you are maybe third keeper and you come in so quick because of two injuries," Ballack explained.

"But I think you couldn't feel it really today. He was quite calm.

"He did well and everybody has confidence in him because we see him in training every day and he's really working hard.

"He's a good keeper and everybody has trust in him, no problem.

"This is football. Sometimes you get big, big chances and I think the main thing is that we stay together and everybody trusts each other in this squad."
