Lennon woe for Redknapp

by Admin , 14 March 2010 football news

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed midfielder Aaron Lennon is 'quite a way off' a return to action.

Lennon picked up a groin injury around three months ago and suffered another setback in his rehabilitation last month.

Redknapp has now confirmed Lennon faces another spell on the sidelines and the Spurs boss admitted he is unsure when his midfield star will return to action.

"It must be frustrating for Aaron. He's desperate to get fit. We just can't get him right. He's had a few goes and broken down," Redknapp said.

"He's been back to the specialist. We're taking our time again, building up his strength in the groin area.

"He works every day with the physios and hopefully he will be working back outside shortly but he's not ready to join the group again.

"He's quite a way off."

The former Leeds playmaker was tipped to be included in Fabio Capello's World Cup squad but his chances may have been dealt a blow as the England boss stated he would only take players who were fully fit and had been playing regularly for their club.

However, Redknapp refused to rule out the possibility Lennon could return in time to stake his claim for a place in the England side.

When asked if he thought Lennon would miss the World Cup Redknapp said: "I hope not. I hope he's going to be okay.

"I hope he'll play for us before the end of the season.

"He could suddenly see a bit of light and come back and if he does then he could be ready. Four or five weeks, we'll have to wait and see."
