Drogba unhappy with red card

by Michelle Fortune , 17 March 2010

Didier Drogba does not believe he deserved to be sent off against Inter Milan despite admitting to stepping on Thiago Motta.

Drogba was shown the red card in the closing stages of the Champions League clash at Stamford Bridge, but it is unlikely he would have been able to make much of a difference had he remained in the pitch.

Chelsea trailed 2-1 going into the second leg and a Samuel Eto'o strike in the 79th sealed Inter's progress to the quarter-finals with Drogba admitting Jose Mourinho's men proved too good on the night.

"We didn't play the way we wanted. I think Inter stopped us playing the way we wanted and that's what made the game difficult for us," he said.

"It is a difficult result and now we are going to have to focus on the league and the FA Cup."

Reflecting on his red card, Drogba told Sky Sports: "It is difficult to take because, yes I stepped on his calf, but I don't think I deserved this red card.

"But it is something that happened in the game. The most important thing is that we are out of the competition."
