Riera's Anfield exit done and dusted

by setanta.com staff , 23 July 2010

Olympiacos have completed the signing of Spain winger Albert Riera from Liverpool.

The former Manchester City loanee had fallen out of favour on Merseyside after describing the team as being like a sinking ship under former manager Rafael Benitez, and he almost pushed through a move to a Russian club last season in an attempt to make Spain’s World Cup squad.

That never materialised and Vicente Del Bosque excluded him from the 23 who went on to lift the World Cup in South Africa, however the player never looked like staying even under new boss Roy Hodgson.

And he has now completed his move to the Greek giants, who have revealed that the deal has been done on their website.

"Olympiacos announce the acquisition of Liverpool's Spanish international Albert Riera," a statement read.

"The player has signed a four-year agreement."

Reports suggest that the deal is worth around £5 million (£3.3m plus another potential £1.7m in bonuses), with it also suggested the former Red will be one of the highest paid players in the Greek club’s history, earning over £2illion a year.
