Real Madrid have signed Germany World Cup star Mesut Ozil from Werder Bremen, subject to a medical.
The gifted 21-year-old playmaker was reportedly a target of Manchester United, Chelsea and Barcelona, but it is Jose Mourinho who has convinced him to leave the Bundesliga side a year before his existing contract with Bremen runs out.
The Spanish giants, who saw a bid for the player turned down by Bremen last week, are believed to have secured the player for a cut-price £13 million, though the official fee is undisclosed.
Bremen must now prepare for Wednesday’s Champions League playoff game against Sampdoria without the young star, who is set for a Madrid medical on Wednesday.
"His unique touch, unmatched individual technique, excellent ball control and deadly last pass make the German midfielder one of the brightest up-and-coming stars in European football," read a piece on Ozil on the Real Madrid website.
He will link up with Germany midfield team-mate Sami Khedira at the Bernabeu after he joined from Stuttgart earlier in the summer.
