Preview: Hartlepool v Wigan

by setanta.com staff , 24 August 2010

Defender Maynor Figueroa is unavailable for Wigan Athletic for Tuesday’s Carling Cup tie at League One Hartlepool United.

The Latics, who have conceded ten goals in their two Premier League games so far this season, travel north on the back of a 6-0 loss to Chelsea, in which Figueroa had to be stretchered off.

The Honduras man suffered a twisted ankle in the loss to the champions and will be assessed this week but is definitely out of the Hartlepool game.

Striker Victor Moses could play though after he overcame a calf problem. Defender Steven Caldwell joined on a free transfer on Monday and could also make his debut.

Hartlepool, who ousted Championship Sheffield United in the last round, are waiting on news of a back injury to Uruguayan Fabian Yantorno, while defender Neil Austin is certainly out with an ankle knock.

Ritchie Humphreys, meanwhile, is short of match practice after recovering from knee and Achilles problems.

Wigan (from): Kirkland, Al Habsi, Gohouri, Stam, Boyce, Alcaraz, N'Zogbia, Diame, McArthur, McCarthy, Watson, Thomas, Rodallega, Boselli, Gomez, Golobart, S Caldwell.
