Preview: Lithuania v Scotland

by Setanta staff , 02 September 2010

Veteran David Weir and striker Kenny Miller will both start for Scotland when they face Lithuania in Kaunas on Friday.

Craig Levein's men begin their qualification campaign for Euro 2012 with a tricky away tie, but one that will see defender Weir, 40, set the record for being the oldest player ever to have played in the Championships.

His Rangers team-mates Miller and Steven Naismith have been named in attack, while Tottenham Hotspur right back Alan Hutton is also in the side.

James McFadden will not start after playing with an injury for Birmingham City in recent weeks. Darren Fletcher will captain the side from the centre of midfield, while Scott Brown, Barry Robson and Lee McCulloch are also in the midfield.

Birmingham forward Garry O'Connor and Barnsley full-back Jay McEveley were added to Levein's squad this week, with Wolves striker Steven Fletcher trying to overcome a foot injury to play in the second group game against Liechtenstein on Tuesday.

Goalkeeper Craig Gordon, midfielder Kevin Thomson and defender Gary Caldwell are all missing through injury, while Chris Iwelumo, Lee Wallace and Andy Webster joined Kevin McNaughton in pulling out of the squad with knocks.

Scotland-based striker Andrius Velicka (Rangers, but on loan at Aberdeen), is expected to start for Lithuania, while midfielders Dominykas Galkevicius and Mindaugas Panka are available after injury.~

Scotland: McGregor, Hutton, Weir, McManus, Whittaker, Brown, Fletcher, Robson, McCulloch, Naismith, Miller.
