Arsenal blow Braga away

by Tony Cuddihy , 15 September 2010

Arsenal simply blew Portuguese side Braga away with a stunning display of attacking football in the Champions League opener at Emirates, winning 6-0.

Cesc Fabregas and Carlos Vela each scored twice, with further strikes from Marouane Chamakh and Andrey Arshavin adding the gloss to a phenomenal performance.

Fabregas, once again in dominant form, opened the scoring from the penalty spot after ten minutes, after Chamakh had been brought down by Braga goalkeeper Felipe.

It wasn't, however, until half an hour into the match that Arsenal asserted their dominance. Great play from Fabregas saw him ghost past two players before he slid in Arshavin, who beat the keeper at his near post.

If that goal was good, Arsenal's third was a thing of beauty. The Gunners' passed the ball magnificently between themselves before the ball ran through to Jack Wilshere, who deliciously backheeled the ball into the path of Chamakh to coolly slide into the far corner.

Fabregas headed in Arsenal's fourth after more good work by Wilshere, before substitute Vela rounded things off in the final twenty minutes with two well taken efforts - both created by Fabregas.
