Hibs appoint new boss

by Admin , 18 October 2010 SPL_Hibernian

Colin Calderwood has been appointed as Hibernian's new manager after agreeing a three-year contract at Easter Road.

The 45-year-old has left his role as Newcastle United's assistant boss to take over the position vacated by John Hughes earlier this month.

Calderwood was linked with the Easter Road hot-seat last time but missed out when Hughes was appointed in 2009.

However, with Hughes axed following a poor start to the SPL campaign, Calderwood has now been appointed to replace him.

The former Northampton Town and Nottingham Forest chief has been with Newcastle since January 2009 and was made Toon boss Chris Hughton's number two at the start of last season, where he played a big part in helping the club back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

However the chance to become his own boss looks to have been integral in his decision to leave St James' Park for Easter Road.
