Preview: Southampton v Man United (Sat, 17:15)

by Michelle Fortune , 28 January 2011

Edwin van der Sar has been left out of the Manchester United squad for the trip to Southampton for the FA Cup fourth-round tie.

Van der Sar has announced he will hang up his gloves at the end of the season and United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will take the opportunity to test his potential replacements at St Mary's.

Anders Lindegaard could make his debut for United, although Tomas Kuszczak has also been named in the squad.

Ferguson has a number of defensive issues to deal with as  Ferdinand (groin), Patrice Evra (family bereavement), and Rafael da Silva (concussion) are all out, while Michael Carrick is a doubt because of the ankle injury he sustained against Birmingham last weekend.

Southampton, meanwhile, will wait until closer to kick off before deciding whether or not to risk skipper Dean Hammond, who has been struggling with a calf problem.

Adam Lallana is another doubt after missing the last two matches with a knee injury, but Dany N'Guessan could feature for the League One side.
