Crawley Town became the first non-league side to reach the last 16 of the FA Cup in 17 years after they shocked Torquay United on Saturday.
The heavy-spending Blue Square Premier promotion hopefuls progress thanks to a Matt Tubbs goal, though they could have been more secure had he or Craig McAllister converted later penalties.
The teams finished ten aside as Torquay's Chris Zebroski and Crawley's Dean Howell were both sent off.
Earlier, Leyton Orient of League One won at Championship Swansea as an Alan Tate own goal gave them a 2-1 win at the Liberty Stadium. Jimmy Smith had earlier put Orient ahead before Cedric van der Gun's Swans leveller.
Elsewhere, Ashley Barnes' first-half goal was responsible for another upset as League One leaders Brighton won at Watford, but Stevenage could not repeat their upset heroics of the last round.
Three weeks ago the League Two side defeated Premier League Newcastle, but Darius Charles' goal was not enough for them against Championship Reading, who go through 2-1 thanks to goals from Mikele Leigertwood and Shane Long.
Chris Eagles scored twice as Burnley sank Burton Albion 3-1. Calvin Zola did pull one back for the visitors, but Martin Paterson sealed the win at the death.
At Hillsborough, Clinton Morrison netted two penalties for Sheffield Wednesday as they defeated Hereford United 4-1. Darren Potter and Jermaine Jones also scored for the Owls, though it was Hereford who had opened the scoring courtesy of Stuart Fleetwood.
When they had Joe Heath sent off, however, the game swung in Wednesday's favour.
