Pressure grows on Juve boss

by Setanta Staff , 09 March 2011

The pressure on Juventus boss Gigi Del Neri has increased after club legend Gianluca Vialli admitted he would be open to replacing him.

The Bianconeri are currently seventh in the Serie A table and 20 points adrift of league leaders AC Milan, with the Old Lady in real danger of missing out on a spot in Europe next season.

There have been reports Del Neri could be axed by Juve and Vialli, who has not managed a club since his spell in charge of Watford in 2002, has admitted he would be open to the possibility of becoming the club's manager on a caretaker basis.

He told Tuttosport: "Why am I not in charge of Juve? I'm not doing that because I work as a pundit for Sky Italia, something I do with great pride and happiness.

"It's also because the Bianconeri never asked me to take on that role. If the call comes, then I'll certainly think about it."

The former Chelsea boss made over 100 appearances for Juve in a four-year spell between 1992 and 1996 and, although he would welcome the chance to replace Del Neri, Vialli does not think the club necessarily need to replace the manager.

He added: "I hope Juve do not change, as in difficult moments it is better to go on with the same unit, then at the end of the season is the time to evaluate a situation. Making a change mid-season is not always an improvement."
