Camp gets Northern Ireland call

by JP Lonergan , 14 March 2011

Lee Camp and Liam Boyce have been named in the Northern Ireland squad to face Serbia and Slovenia this month.

Nigel Worthington’s side face Serbia away in Euro 2012 qualification Group B on Friday week, before Slovenia visit Windsor Park for another qualifier four days later.

And one of the games could provide a first cap for Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Camp, who has earned his first call up despite previously representing England at U21 level.

The Derby-born Forest man, goalkeeper of the season in the Championship last term, was cleared by FIFA to play for Worthington’s side last month and joins Werder Bremen striker Boyce, who made his debut against Scotland in the Nations Cup in February, in the 23-man squad.

Striker Rory Patterson is not included even though he started against the Scots, but there are places for Watford youngsters Lee Hodson and Adam Thompson and Rangers front man Kyle Lafferty, despite Hodson and Lafferty currently suffering with a leg injury and tonsillitis respectively.
