Schalke dominated holders Inter Milan for a second time to ease into a Champions League semi-final against Manchester United.
Raul scored the 71st Champions League goal of his career to give the German side the lead late in the first half. The Spaniard picked up Jose Manuel Jurado's pass, round Julio Cesar and slotted the ball in on the stroke of half-time.
The made it 6-2 on aggregate but Inter managed to give themselves the tiniest glimmer of hope early in the second half.
A cross from Wesley Sneijder was powered towards goal by Lucio, with Thiago Motta sticking out a foot to divert the ball past Manuel Neuer and into the Schalke net.
Schalke, however, continued to dominate the game and finished off the tie when Raul's brilliantly scooped pass found centre-half Howedes, and he fired into the bottom corner. Schalke won the tie 7-3 on aggregate.
