Sri Lanka's Upul Tharanga has apologised to the fans after being banned for three months for testing positive for a banned substance.
The 26-year-old was not selected for the current tour of England after being notified of the positive test, which was carried out during this year's World Cup.
He stayed behind in Sri Lanka to sort out the issue and made it clear to the authorities that he had not knowingly taken anything that might enhance his performance.
The talented left-hander said that he had ingested the banned substance in a herbal remedy - an explanation accepted by the ICC.
However, they have still handed out the punishment, which will end in August as it was back-dated to May.
Tharanga will therefore be available to play in Sri Lanka's home one-day international series against Australia later this year but will play no part in the upcoming five one-dayers with Alastair Cook's men.
Tharanga has expressed his regret at what has happened and hopes that other players might take something from his experience.
"I apologise to the fans and followers of Sri Lanka cricket for inadvertently committing an offence,"he said. "I hope my fellow sportsmen will learn from my experience and be more vigilant when taking medical treatment, so that their careers do not suffer in the way that mine has."
