Drogba eyes Euro success

by Setanta Staff , 09 December 2011

Chelsea talisman Didier Drogba insists there is no reason why the Blues cannot secure Champions League glory this season.

The European prize has remained elusive for Chelsea in recent years, but Drogba believes they can finally secure the Champions League crown this season.

However, the veteran striker believes if the Blues are to succeed in Europe then the other senior stars in the dressing room need to work hard to adapt under Andre Villas-Boas, who took charge at Stamford Bridge in the summer.

"He is trying to build something strong, like the other managers did before. He bought some new players and we have to adapt," Drogba told the London Evening Standard.

"I will say the old players, the ones who have been here for a while, we have to adapt together, learn how to play together and win together.

"There are still a few things we need to improve on.

"To win the Champions League you have to be a really strong team and be lucky as well. But we have to create and make our own luck.

"If we keep going like the way we did against Valencia, then why not? It is good to be part of this new campaign.

"The match against Valencia was only my second in the competition this year so it's good to be part of it. I love this competition."

The striker's future has come under scrutiny in recent weeks and Drogba's agent had claimed the frontman would be heading for pastures new at the end of the current campaign.

However, the Ivorian forward hinted he is prepared to stay at Stamford Bridge earlier this week by insisting he can remain at the top level of football for at least two more seasons, although it remains to be seen whether or not he will agree to a contract extension with his current deal set to expire in the summer.
