Mourinho eyes silverware

by Admin , 02 February 2011

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is confident his side can land their first Copa del Rey title since way back in 1993.

Real host Sevilla in Spain's domestic cup competition on Wednesday, with the Spanish giants holding a 1-0 advantage over the defending champions ahead of the showdown at the Bernabeu.

Mourinho admits it will not be an easy tie but he is confident his side can progress to the final, where they will almost certainly face league leaders Barcelona who hold a 5-0 first-leg advantage over Almeria.

"The team is in good shape, motivated to get to the final," said the Portuguese coach. "It's been many years since Madrid reached it. We're one game away from reaching it. It won't be easy but we want to get to the final."

He added: "January was a difficult month with us having played nine games and while there are players who are used to that, there are some that aren't because in the past years Madrid has been eliminated in the first round of the cup. The problem from a mental standpoint is it's more taxing to play twice a week."

Emmanuel Adebayor is in contention to face Sevilla after the Togo striker made his Real debut in the shock 1-0 loss to Osasuna at the weekend.
