Rodgers gives Swans international backing

by Setanta Staff , 20 January 2012

Boss Brendan Rodgers has given his backing to Swansea's England contingent to make an impact at international level.

Swans midfielders Scott Sinclair and Leon Britton (pictured) were both linked with call-ups to Fabio Capello's England earlier this week after their impressive displays against Arsenal last weekend.

But Rodgers believes that, with his side's passing style suited to the demands of international football, Sinclair and Britton are not the only players who could make the step up if given the chance.

Sinclair and compatriots Nathan Dyer and Danny Graham were all on the scoresheet against Arsenal while Sinclair plays for England's U21 side alongside Swansea's on-loan Tottenham defender Steven Caulker.

"We have a number of players who could play at that level,"Rodgers told BBC Sport. "They play the game here which suits international football and I'd have no hesitation about any of these players that are deemed possibilities being good enough to play at the level.

"Whether they get chosen or not is another factor. They can only control their own performance level and then it is up to selectors to pick them.

"They have shown that you don't need to play for Barcelona to have courage."
