Price is right to dominate - Maloney

David Price has been tipped by Frank Maloney to 'dominate the heavyweight division' after his 73 seconds win against John McDermott.

The 28-year-old Olympic bronze medallist and Liverpool-born boxer defeated Essex fighter, McDermott, by a technical knockout to claim the English heavyweight title while taking his record to an impressive 12-0 with 10 knockouts.

Price, who is now looking to go head-to-head with Tyson Fury for his British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles, said: "The fight is done and the result is in the bag."

The result was never in doubt when Price connected with a superb uppercut, flooring McDermott after just 20 seconds, before two more right-hand hooks knocked him down on two more occasions which prompted the referee to stop the fight with 90 seconds of the first round remaining.

"That uppercut was a peach of a shot," Price added afterwards.

A delighted Maloney, who also managed heavyweight champion of the world Lennox Lewis, is confident that Price will go on to big things in boxing.

"David will dominate the heavyweight division. We now go to the next level," he said.

"Tonight we saw a real heavyweight star born."
