Whelan seeks instant response

by Setanta Staff , 23 January 2012 Whelan seeks instant response

Glenn Whelan is backing his Stoke team-mates to bounce back quickly from Saturday's disappointing 2-1 defeat to West Brom.

The Irish international is convinced the result is nothing more than a blip for Tony Pulis' men and he wouldn't be surprised if Derby County feel the backlash when they head to Pride Park next weekend for their FA Cup fourth round tie.

City went into the game with the Baggies full of confidence after a run of only one defeat in their previous nine fixtures and Whelan sees no reason why they can't pick up where they left off against the Rams.

He told the club's official website, "It's nothing to worry about in my opinion.

"We have been on a great run over the last month or two, where we have become used to winning games and picking up points.

"Obviously it is disappointing to have lost the game because all of us wanted to go out there, put in a good performance and get those three points on the board; but it just wasn't meant to be.

"We have a chance to get it out of our system against Derby on Saturday, and that is exactly what we will be looking to do. If we can go there and play our usual game then it is one that we can win, and get us back on track."
