Blackburn have snapped up Bradley Orr from Premier League rivals QPR to boost boss Steve Kean's options in defence.
The right-back has struggled for action at Loftus Road this season and the arrival of Nedum Onuoha had pushed him further down the pecking order under new QPR boss Mark Hughes.
Kean has now moved to secure Orr, and the Blackburn boss is delighted with his latest recruit.
"I think the age he's at gives us a little bit more experience in that position," said Kean.
"We've been playing Jason Lowe and young Adam Henley there as well, but we feel Bradley will bring us experience and another option."
The 29-year-old will not be available for Newcastle's visit on Wednesday but will be able to face Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday.
