Stoke boss Tony Pulis has defended the club's decision to sell Ben Marshall to Leicester and says they had no choice.
Pulis had been hoping to tie the talented winger down to a new contract but it soon became clear that was not going to happen and the Potters decided to cash in now.
The Foxes paid an initial £750,000 for Marshall which could rise to £1million but Pulis is disappointed to lose such a talented player nonetheless.
"We are disappointed we've lost Ben because he's a very good player, but circumstances have determined what the club has done," Pulis said of the situation.
Meanwhile, Pulis also confirmed he had been working on a couple of deals but was unable to push them through before the deadline.
"We wanted to try and bring a couple in, but it never happened," he added.
