Clerc warns of dangerous pitch

French winger Vincent Clerc has warned there is a danger of the Stade de France pitch being unplayable for Saturday's RBS Six Nations clash with Ireland.

The Stade de France pitch is covered to prevent frost from getting into the ground and it will remain shielded until just before kickoff at 2000 GMT on Saturday when temperatures are once again expected to fall below zero.

The French federation insist there is no fear of the match being called off but Clerc believes the icy conditions could render the pitch dangerous and therefore unplayable.

"If it's minus 7 on Saturday, there is reason for concern over the frozen pitch. It was already frozen when we played Italy (last Saturday). The parts near the touchline were frozen," Clerc told reporters on Wednesday.

Both captain's runs were cancelled prior to last weekend's game between France and Italy and it has already been confirmed that neither side will be able to train at the venue before kick-off this Friday due to the adverse weather conditions.
