AVB demands top four finish

by Setanta Staff , 13 February 2012 Chelsea

Andre Villas-Boas says Chelsea need to qualify for the Champions League and finishing in the top four is the least they expect.

Chelsea's hopes of finishing in the top four suffered a setback as they went down 2-0 at Everton but Villas-Boas says there is still plenty of time to get the points to ensure qualification.

The Portuguese admits the top two are gone and now says the only objective is to qualify for the Champions League but with Tottenham, Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool also pushing for Europe, it will not be easy.

Pressure is mounting on Villas-Boas and there has even been talk that Fabio Capello is being lined up as his replacement, but the Chelsea boss is staying fully focused on the job in hand.

"Now we are fifth, level on points with the fourth team. We know exactly what our targets are for the season," Villas-Boas told the Press Association.

"There are still plenty of games to play. There is an objective and we have to set out to reach the objective. Champions League qualification is the least you can ask for.

"We need Champions League qualification and that's what we expect. The objective is first place but first place is not a real objective anymore and neither is second."

Chelsea now turn their attentions to the FA Cup clash against Birmingham and Champions League first leg with Napoli before they return to league action and two win will give the whole club a lift.
