Holt slams long-ball claims

by Setanta Staff , 13 February 2012 football news

Grant Holt has hit out at 'ridiculous' recent reports that Norwich have adopted a long-ball game to achieve Premier League survival.

The physical Canaries' frontman has enjoyed an impressive Premier League campaign with Paul Lambert's side as his two-goal blast on Saturday helped the side record a 3-2 win against Swansea at the Liberty Stadium.

However Holt was quick to slam suggestions that Norwich have changed the way they approach games in recent weeks in order to pick up points at the expense of their usual passing style of play.

The much-travelled 30-year-old, whose goals have helped Norwich to reach 35 points for the season to date and are now just two wins away from almost certainly guaranteeing a second season in the Premier League, told Skysports: "A few things have been said this week that we've turned into a long-ball team, which is absolutely ridiculous.

"We play teams in certain ways we need to play against them to win. Here, we changed to a diamond, pressed them high and tore them apart for 25 minutes.

"We've got a belief, we've got a desire and we've got a team spirit that other clubs would love. Hopefully we're in the top flight to stay.

"We're in a fantastic position, we're delighted with the points we have and we want to get over that 40-point mark as soon as possible."
