Fabregas cleared over Hull fracas

by Joseph Caron Dawe , 22 May 2009

Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has been cleared on two charges of improper conduct by The FA.

The Gunners' captain was called to account over two allegations in the wake of his side's FA Cup win over Hull on March 17 at Emirates Stadium.

The Spain international did not play in the 2-1 quarter-final win over The Tigers, but entered the pitch after the final whistle to congratulate his team-mates.

However, controversy ensued after Hull boss Phil Brown gave an angry post-match interview to Setanta Sports, in which he accused Fabregas of spitting at his assistant, Brian Horton.

The aftermath of the match was then investigated by The FA and Fabregas was answerable on a charge relating to that allegation, as well as a separate one with regards to his presence on the pitch.

On Friday, The FA made an official announcement clearing Fabregas of any wrongdoing.

A statement from the governing body read: "The FA can confirm that, at a Regulatory Commission hearing, two charges of improper conduct against Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas were found not proved.

"The charges related to Fabregas’s conduct following the FA Cup match between Arsenal and Hull at the Emirates Stadium on 17 March.

"One charge concerned his conduct after coming onto the pitch following the final whistle. The second charge related to an allegation of spitting."
