Lawrence in Stoke talks

by Joseph Caron Dawe , 02 June 2009

Stoke midfielder Liam Lawrence is in talks with the club over a new contract, and has declared his desire to remain at the club for the foreseeable future.

The Republic of Ireland international still has two years remaining on his current deal with The Potters, but is now keen to commit himself beyond that.

Portsmouth had been linked with a move for the 27-year-old, who signed a contract extension in March 2008, but former Sunderland star Lawrence wants to remain at The Britannia Stadium.

“I don’t want to go anywhere,” he told the Stoke Sentinel.

“I want to stay at Stoke and spend the best four years of my life here.

“I have been trying to sort out a contract for a couple of weeks.

“I am just waiting to hear back from the club, but am hoping to get something resolved over the next few days.

“I have been down the order in terms of earnings. I signed a new contract last year when I was one of the best players in the team at that time. I am not being greedy, but I do feel I deserve to be on a par with the top earners.”

Lawrence’s statement of intent comes shortly after defender Abdoulaye Faye’s revelation that he wants to remain at Stoke for the rest of his career.
