Chairman: We can live with expectation

by Richard Field , 10 June 2009

Stoke chairman Peter Coates is confident the team will not feel the pressure as they bid to fulfil the rising expectations of the club's fans.

The Britannia Stadium was more often than not a wall of sound last season as Stoke battled their way to a second term in The Premier League.

Tony Pulis' side were odds-on to make an immediate return to the Championship before a ball was kicked, and so far the bookmakers have installed them as fifth-favourites to be relegated next May.

"We will try to meet those expectations and will be doing our very best to have another season," Coates said in The Sentinel.

"We have had two terrific seasons and our supporters have been pleased with our progress.

"But they are also realistic and know how well we have done so far. They have been brilliant with us and I am sure that will continue next season."
