Shinawatra has 'no interest' in Pompey

by Tom Kell , 14 June 2009

Former Manchester City owner Thaksin Shinawatra has rebuffed reports that he is involved in the pending takeover of Portsmouth.

Sulaiman Al-Fahim looks to be on the brink of buying the club and speculation in the weekend’s newspapers claimed that Shinawatra could form part of the proposed deal.

Pompey chairman Peter Storrie has since rubbished any such suggestion and Shinawatra has now echoed those sentiments via a statement on Pompey’s official website.

"I am not involved with Sulaiman Al-Fahim's bid in any way,” said Shinawatra.

"I have no interest in Portsmouth FC and, furthermore, I have no plans to become involved in any football club in the future.

"I have been surprised and shocked by the media coverage and my name being linked with the club. There is absolutely no truth in this."
