Reported Tottenham Hotspur target Maxi Rodriguez has claimed that his preference is to remain with Atletico Madrid this summer.
The Argentina international is believed to be a possible candidate to strengthen Harry Redknapp’s team this summer as the Spurs boss plots an overhaul of the squad currently at his disposal.
But Maxi, 28, made 33 Primera Liga appearances for Atleti last season, scoring six goals, and remains committed to succeeding with the Madrid club who are preparing for Champions League football next season.
“We will have to see how everything goes,” the Spanish club’s captain told Marca when asked about a possible exit. “I still have a year with Atleti but you have to see what happens.
“I am very, very happy there. When I arrive for pre-season I will do what the club wants me to.
“I do not care about the rumours regarding my possible exit. I am confident in my position and I am going to play.”
Maxi joined Atleti from Espanyol in the summer of 2005 and has been an established figure in the Spanish league for seven years following his move from Newell’s Old Boys in his native Argentina.
