The agent of AZ Alkmaar star Moussa Dembele has exclusively confirmed to setanta.com that Tottenham are rivaling Chelsea for the possible signing of the Belgium international.
Dembele is a figure very much on the radar of English clubs after the 21-year-old scored ten goals in 23 games during AZ’s Championship-winning season in De Eredivisie.
Chelsea had already been unmasked as suitors of the forward, along with the likes of Genoa and Sevilla, but now Tottenham have shown an interest in the player who joined AZ from Willem II in the summer of 2006.
Dembele is determined to leave AZ in the coming weeks and his agent, Patrick Vervoort, has confirmed that both Carlo Ancelotti and Harry Redknapp are currently mulling over an official approach for his client.
“My colleague in England has had contact with Tottenham,” Vervoort told setanta.com.
“Yes we have had contact and he is on the list with a lot of other players. But at the moment they won’t move any further than that.
“Chelsea is the same story as Tottenham. He is on the list of Chelsea and we are still waiting to see if one of the teams moves.
“It depends on what happens at the club; if they sell players or bring in new players. At the moment a lot of clubs are waiting to sell players before they move on from there.
“AZ want to keep Moussa because he is a key player. But the player has said that he would like to move in the summer so that is why we are now in contact with other clubs and we will try to move him.”
Dembele has scored 20 goals in 89 Eredivisie games for AZ Alkmaar.
