Rovers eye ambitious targets

by Adam Marshall , 17 June 2009

Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce is being credited with two top-quality performers as the Ewood Park outfit look to strengthen their squad.

Sources in Germany claim Rovers want to sign Borussia Dortmund star Mohamed Zidan, who produced a man-of-the-match performance for Egypt in their Confederations Cup defeat to Brazil.

The 27-year-old African ace scored twice and is believed to have attracted admiring looks from The Premier League.

However, Zidan has stressed he does not want to leave Dortmund despite the suggestion that Blackburn could table an offer after the tournament.

"I have already signed a contract for four years and I have three years left of that contract, so I still have time to make it at this team and the club," he said.

"And I don't think I would make the decision to leave Borussia Dortmund.

"I am very happy being a member of the team."

Separate reports in Spain are indicating that Allardyce is tracking Ivan de la Pena, the classy Espanyol midfielder.

'The Little Buddha' is mulling over a new contract offer in Barcelona but the playmaker's agent Manel Ferrer is using alleged interest from Arabian clubs and Blackburn to help leverage a better deal.
