Rovers gunning for Pedersen’s extension

by Laurent Picard , 17 June 2009

Blackburn Rovers chairman John Williams has declared he wants to secure a contract extension for Morten Gamst Pedersen.

The 27-year-old Scandinavian is due to be out of contract at the end of the season, but Rovers are about to offer him a new deal to secure his stay at Ewood Park.

Williams understands that his club and the player share the same vision for the future, and he has announced that he will discuss Pedersen’s future with manager Sam Allardyce in the next fortnight.

“That’s something that we will look at over the next couple of weeks,” Williams told reporters.

“I will have to sit down and talk to Sam about Morten’s situation, but I think all parties are willing to get something sorted.”

Meanwhile, Brett Emerton, who picked up a cruciate knee ligament injury this term, has declared he is hopeful of not missing the start of next season.

“Everything's going really well,” Emerton said. “I’ve been running for quite some time now and I’ll be looking to rejoin the team during pre-season.

“The longest spell before this is probably two to three weeks so it's something I haven’t encountered before during my career.”
