Yaya wants new Barca deal by next week

by Robin Hackett , 18 June 2009

Yaya Toure’s agent expects the player to sign a new deal at Barcelona – but has warned that the issue must be resolved by next week.

The Ivory Coast midfielder was an important part of Barca’s treble-winning season and has requested an improved contract to reflect his contribution.

And while agent Dimitri Seluk is optimistic about reaching an agreement, he says the club must come to an arrangement with Toure in the coming days or he will not sign.

“Barca are optimistic about resolving the issue and I believe we are very close to signing a new deal, but it is clear that the deadline for signing is next week,” he told Ona FM.

“There are many teams interested in Toure, but we’re not interested in that.

“In fact, there are only eight teams he would be willing to play for – three in Italy, three in England and two in Spain.”
