Exclusive: English clubs move for Valencia star

by Tom Adams , 19 June 2009

The agent of Everton and Aston Villa target Miguel has exclusively told setanta.com that Valencia have been contacted by Premier League clubs keen to sign the right back.

Miguel made 29 appearances for Valencia last season as they finished fifth in the Primera Liga but the adverse financial climate at the Mestalla means the club are desperate to make cuts to their playing staff.

David Villa looks destined to join Real Madrid and Miguel could also become a high-profile victim of Valencia’s cost-cutting measures, despite his impressive performances in the four seasons since his move from Benfica.

The Portugal international’s priority is to move to England and reports linking David Moyes and Martin O’Neill with an interest in the player are only likely to increase following the latest statement from his agent.

“Valencia spoke with me and said there was contact from English clubs but I need to make an appointment with Valencia now,” Barbosa told setanta.com.

“Of course he would want to move to The Premier League.

“The problem with Valencia is financial. They have some difficulties; that is why we think England can be a good solution.”

Miguel joined Valencia after winning the Portuguese league title with Benfica in 2005 and has made 115 Primera Liga appearances for the Spanish club.

The speedy full back also represented his country with distinction at the Euro 2004 and World Cup 2006 finals, before being displaced in the Portugal side by Chelsea’s Jose Bosingwa.
