Bordeaux fight off Arsenal interest

by Laurent Picard , 20 June 2009

Arsenal will have to pay more than €10 million (£8.4m) to lure Marouane Chamakh away from Bordeaux, chairman Jean-Louis Triaud has revealed.

Morocco international Chamakh has emerged as an option for The Gunners, with Fulham also believed to be monitoring the situation.

The striker, who scored 13 goals for the Ligue 1 champions this season, could still sign a new deal with Les Girondins, according to Triaud, who believes the player might be better off staying put.

“If he were to move to Arsenal, I am not sure that selling Adebayor would be sufficient to attract him and us. If Arsenal were to offer €10 million it would not be enough,”  Triaud said on RMC.

“I have not spoken with Marouane since the end of the season. Still he has a year left of contract. Could he sign a new deal? Indeed.

“I am not sure that he has already gone, as he has everything he needs in Bordeaux, including his family. We are going to talk about it.”
