Valencia striker David Villa insists he has no idea where he will be playing next season.
Despite interest from Manchester United and Chelsea, the 27-year-old Spain international was widely expected to join Real Madrid or Barcelona this summer, but cash-strapped Valencia announced last week that the player was no longer for sale.
And Villa, who is currently at the Confederations Cup in South Africa, says he has found the transfer talk unsettling and now wants to forget about it until he returns to Spain.
“Nobody can know how dreadful the past week has been for me,” he said in the Daily Express.
“It was really bad with all the speculation going on and everybody always asking about my future.
“My family has advised me to focus strictly on the football so that is what I have been trying to do – and will continue to do over the next week while we are here in South Africa.
“I am not going to say anything concerning my future at all.
“I just want to enjoy the Confed Cup, help my team win the title and score goals – trying to catch Raul at the top of Spain’s all-time scoring list.
“I am trying to prove during training and matches that this is not getting to me, but it’s hard to cope in between the active sessions and the games.
“The only realistic comment I can make about next season is that I don’t know where I am going to play.
“I am trying not to let my performances be affected by all this.”
Spanish newspaper Sport reported on Tuesday that Villa is eager to join Barcelona, with Chelsea having no intention of re-joining the bidding.
