Billionaire sports impresario Allen Stanford has been arrested in the US after giving himself up to authorities.
Stanford, who staged a controversial $20m (£15m) cricket match between England and his own team, the Stanford All Stars last year, faces civil charges over an alleged fraud totalling $8bn (£6bn).
He is likely to appear before a federal court in Richmond on Friday having gone to the FBI in Virginia.
Stanford's financial group is accused by the US financial watchdog SEC of luring investors by promising huge gains on their capital. The SEC have described the fraud as one of "shocking magnitude".
Stanford's cricket series was dogged with criticism from the start.
As well as the supposedly excessive money on offer and the dubious quality of the spectacle, Stanford was forced to apologise to the England players after being spotted on the big screen with the wife of England wicketkeeper Matt Prior on his lap.
